Lionel Pike (b. 1939, Bristol, England)

Lionel Pike was a chorister and later assistant organist at Bristol Cathedral. He became organ scholar of Pembroke College at the University of Oxford in 1959, where he completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree. Professor Pike has taught at Royal Holloway in London since 1965. In 1969 he became director of the school's chapel music, a position he still holds.

Pike has written five books and a large number of articles. His first book, Beethoven, Sibelius, and "the Profound Logic," published in 1978, was named one of the three best academic books published on any subject that year by the American Library journal Choice. His research interests extend from Purcell to Sibelius and include symphonic logic generally.

With the chapel choir, he has made fourteen CDs. Pike has also given recitals throughout Europe. Lynwood Music publishes his compositions.
