Georg von Reutter (b. 1708d. 1772).

Georg von Reutter received his early musical training from his father, who was the court organist in Vienna. At age 19 von Reutter wrote his first opera. He traveled to Italy in 1729, where he studied opera. When he returned, he took the position of court composer, beginning a lifetime of service to the Habsburg Court. When his father died in 1738, von Reutter succeeded him as kapellmeister at Stephansdom, which redirected him toward composing church music. In 1769 he became the court kapellmeister. {Sue: I added the next sentence.} Interestingly, Franz Joseph Haydn sang in one of von Reutter's imperial choirs and considered him to be quite a tyrant. For 30 years he was the most influential church musician in Vienna, composing over 500 religious works. Other composers, including Mozart and Beethoven, studied his music to enhance their understanding of imperial preferences.
