Question #10 - What are the most difficult aspects for you of writing a composition?

MSB - M. Susan Brown;   SH - Steve Hahn;   TK - Tim Krueger;   TS - Terry Schlenker

MSB - Knowing when to stop. This applies both to knowing how to end a composition and when to cease trying to improve a piece.

SH - What is most difficult is coming up with something that hasn’t been done elsewhere. With all the music that’s been written over the years and the somewhat limited combination of harmonies available, that’s always a concern.

TK - I think the hardest thing about composing is creating a melody, one that is satisfying, catchy, not hackneyed. That is why I tend to work with existing melodies.
