Elementary/ Middle School Workshops

Education Programs and Resources History & Description:
In 2007, and again in 2010, a quartet of singers from the choir presented workshops at elementary schools in Adams Co. District 50.  These workshops were so successful and well-received, the choir is anxious to continue to offer them.  The workshops are included in the SCC directory of resources to teachers (published by SCFD.)

Workshops typically involve 3rd-8th graders and focus on Ensemble Singing techniques.  Though the quartet begins with a performance of 2 short pieces, they quickly move into activities which *lead the students through  vocal warm-ups to target specific singing skills, *identify and correct habits and behaviors that detract from good choral singing, and *Q&A time.  The culmination of the workshop is a student performance of  a piece of their own, followed by suggestions from the quartet for improvement.  The students immediately put these singing skills into practice.

Quotations:
"(The Workshops) were very engaging.  The students enjoyed the demonstrations.  It linked to prior learning."
"It really helped to reinforce classroom teachings for performance."
"Though the students had a lot of fun, they learned quite a bit, too."
"Much of what was covered in the workshops fits right in with the district and state standards."

Ongoing opportunities:
Elementary or Middle School workshops are available for scheduling without using the SCC catalog.  If interested, please contact St. Martin's Chamber Choir: call (303)298-1970 or email us.
