I. Love Bade Me Welcome: Music of
Ralph Vaughan Williams

with the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Ralph Vaughan Williams's death, St. Martin's joins with the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra (a program of Augustana Arts) in presenting a musical tribute to one of the 20th century's most beloved composers.  This concert will also feature the world premiere of "The Waking", commissioned by St. Martin's and Musica Sacra and written for this occasion by Denver composer Terry Schlenker.

II. The Composer's Choice

When setting a poetic text a composer faces many musical choices.  A small ensemble from St. Martin's, along with the concert audience, will explore how different composers have tackled this thorny, beautiful dilemma.  Please plan to join us for St. Martin's first-ever Cameo Concerts.

III. Thou Little Tiny Child: Christmas with St. Martin's

St. Martin’s presents one of Colorado’s most popular Holiday choral events with this program of works both ancient and modern highlighting the fragility and vulnerability of infancy, particularly through King Herod’s attempt to find and slay the Christ child. “Thou Little Tiny Child:” Christmas with St. Martin’s includes a cappella works by Palestrina, de Wert, Victoria, Kirchoff, Britten and others, and concludes with Camille Saint-Saens’ elegant and infrequently performed Christmas Oratorio for soloists, chorus, string quintet, harp, and organ.

We think it's great that Abraham Lincoln, Felix Mendelssohn and Charles Darwin were all born in February 1809. In this Cameo Concert we'll look for connections, coincidences and curiosities involving these three 19th century giants.

VI. Enlightenment A Cappella

Although the 18th century is usually known as the era of the basso continuo, with instruments accompanying nearly all choral music, Artistic Director Tim Krueger has uncovered some wonderful unaccompanied works. We close this 15th anniversary season with a cappella chamber works of charm and passion, elegance and fire.  [Concert program]     [Program notes]
