Hail Gladdening Light

Hail Gladdening Light

Less widely known than contemporaries such as Edward Elgar, Charles Villiers Stanford, and Hubert Parry, composer Charles Wood had no less an influence on the development of British choral music. As a composition professor at Cambridge, he mentored a remarkable generation of composers, including Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst. This program places Wood’s music at its center, complemented by works from his teachers Parry and Stanford, as well as his distinguished students. Renowned British organist Simon Jacobs—former organist of Westminster Abbey—joins the choir for this special celebration.
